We offer your choice of live instruction training at our facility in Milwaukee WI, or convenient on-site training at your facility. ASBESTOS TRAINING
At SA Herbst, our asbestos certification training is led by instructors who work in the field. Our wide range of asbestos training courses allows workers to maintain their certifications and be well-prepared to work in this growing field.

Asbestos Awareness means being knowledgeable about the potential asbestos hazards in your building. This is a short 2-hour class to give you basic information about where asbestos has been used in buildings, how to recognize asbestos, health risks associated with asbestos exposure, and reasons for following asbestos safety requirements, This training is required by OSHA for housekeeping and custodial workers, and by EPA for school custodial and maintenance staff. SA Herbst recommends this class for anyone who wants to learn about basic asbestos safety.

The EPA Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) requires all public and private schools to appoint an Asbestos Designated Person, to be responsible for managing the school asbestos program. The Designated Person must be trained in AHERA requirements in order to perform this work properly. This half-day course covers these requirements so that the Designated Person can manage their program effectively. Topics include basic asbestos information, the health effects of asbestos, detection/ identification/assessment of asbestos, options for controlling asbestos, asbestos management programs, and asbestos & related safety regulations

Asbestos has been used in materials on the outside of buildings, including roofing, siding, and caulk. During the remodeling project, these asbestos materials must be properly and safely removed. This one-day course teaches how to recognize and remove these asbestos-containing exterior building materials, protect yourself on the job, and properly clean up the area after removal is completed.
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services allows workers to use this training to abate non-friable (not crumbly) asbestos on the outside of buildings.

This 2-day course teaches how to supervise the removal of non-friable asbestos materials on the exterior of buildings, such as roofing and siding. It follows Wisconsin Department of Health Services training requirements. Day 1 is the same as the Asbestos Exterior Worker class. Day 2 covers the supervision of these abatement projects, asbestos building material sampling and air sampling, and the required documentation.

This 2-day training course is required by OSHA, EPA, and Wisconsin DHS for employees that will do maintenance and repair work on asbestos materials. These jobs are small-scale asbestos removals and cleanups where all waste will fit into 1 bag. This course covers how to recognize asbestos in buildings, the health effects related to asbestos exposure, personal safety, removal procedures, and compliance issues, This course is highly recommended for any maintenance or custodial personnel who may be doing OSHA Class III Asbestos Work.

Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources requires that buildings be inspected for asbestos before being remodeled or demolished. The reason is to protect the safety of building residents and workers, but also the environment. Our Asbestos Inspector class was developed to provide the requirements and guidance for individuals conducting these building inspections. This is a 3-day class that provides information about asbestos and where to find it in buildings, safety and PPE use, the role of the inspector in a construction project, how to inspect the building, sample collection and analysis, on-site documentation, inspection reports, and legal requirements for inspections.

Asbestos abatement is the removal and cleanup of asbestos on properties. Abatement is usually done as part of a building remodeling or demolition project. Trained workers can abate any type and amount of asbestos on a project. They also must work under the supervision of a trained Asbestos Abatement Supervisor. This 4-day worker course covers the basics for the removal and control of asbestos and includes background information on asbestos-containing materials, use of personal protective equipment, health & safety, required and recommended asbestos work practices, and state and federal regulations. The course includes hands-on exercises in PPE, work area setup, and removal and cleaning procedures.

An Asbestos Abatement Supervisor must be on site managing the project whenever abatement work is going on. This supervisor is considered the OSHA Competent Persons for safety. This 5-day course covers the same material as the Asbestos Abatement Worker class but adds a 5th day that teaches about supervisor responsibilities, required documentation and paperwork, and air testing procedures during and after abatement. Hands-on exercises include PPE, work area set up, removal and cleaning procedures, how to collect air samples, and paperwork including project notifications.
LEAD TRAINING
Working with lead can range from general awareness to lead safe renovation certification. Whether you are a certified lead-safe renovation firm that must have certified staff on site or have employees that need to be certified to identify lead and understand the risks of lead exposure, we offer proper courses for required state certification.

This 2-hour Lead Awareness Training course is designed to assist in providing an understanding of lead and its properties as well as how to minimize exposure during any activities that might disturb lead materials. Course topics include information on where lead can be found, health risks associated with lead exposure, products & uses, and general worker safety.

This required OSHA training for employees who are exposed to lead dust or fumes at work. Workers may be exposed to paint dust when working on old buildings when cutting or torching lead metal, or at battery reclamation sites. This 4 Hour class includes the history of lead use, health concerns, how exposures occur, the OSHA Lead Standard, exposure monitoring, respiratory protection, work practices, and personal hygiene. The class meets the training requirements in the OSHA lead regulations.
> Upcoming Course Dates -
During remodeling projects on older homes, workers can create significant lead hazards if their work is not done according to safety procedures. This 1-day course meets U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), HUD, and Wisconsin DHS requirements to train renovation, repair, and painting contractors how to work safely in older housing to prevent lead poisoning. Course topics include health effects associated with lead exposure, legal requirements, property work area setup and removal procedures, personal safety, cleaning requirements, and record keeping. This course contains hands-on training activities including how to rest for lead paint, work area set up, cleaning and waste handling procedures, cleaning verification, and paperwork.

This course is the same as the Lead Safe Renovator but is taught in Spanish.
REFRESHER & OTHER TRAINING SERVICES
All refresher classes are required by OSHA, EPA, or Wisconsin DHS to review initial class materials, but also have time for discussion and questions on asbestos or lead-related topics.

In Wisconsin, the Department of Health Services requires that Lead Safe Renovators take a 4 Hour refresher class every 4 years to maintain their Wisconsin certification. This course also complies with EPA and HUD renovation, repair, and painting program refresher training. This class is a review of the initial class topics, including regulations, testing for lead-based paint, set-up and work practices, personal protective equipment & dust control, and record keeping. It includes hands activities with paint testing procedures and cleaning verification.

OSHA requires employees that have had initial asbestos training to have annual refresher training. This ½ day annual update will is a review of the initial class materials, but also include regulation changes and new information regarding asbestos. Topics of review include health effects related to asbestos, safety procedures, removal and cleaning practices, compliance issues, regulatory review, and PPE requirements and guidelines.

Topics of review include information on asbestos-containing materials, health & safety, how to set up and remove non-friable asbestos-containing exterior building materials, clean up, project supervision, bulk material & air methods, waste handling & disposal and asbestos & related safety regulations. This course satisfies the training requirement for persons seeking to renew their Wisconsin asbestos exterior supervisor certification.

It is a review of the initial Asbestos Abatement Supervisor class material but will include new regulation changes and information on asbestos. This course satisfies the training requirement for persons seeking to renew their asbestos contractor/supervisor certification in Wisconsin.
